What a way to start the week! Chile is looking good atop the Group H table. This is a down week before the exams start in 2 weeks so now is the time to start organising your study times. We have sent the timetables and some revision materials to your mails so keep checking.

We have a very heavy test week this week so please do your best to keep up with your studies. In addition, Chile´s first World Cup match is on Wednesday and we have the pleasure of televising the game starting at 07:30 in the assembly hall. This will be a normal school day so we encourage you to come ready to work.

Remember too that winter uniform is now manditory. If you are missing any part of your uniform you can visit the Lost and Found sale that is on all this week from 16:00 to 16:30.

Los alumnos de primero están participando en OPTE, y dos grupos divididos entre Arte y Deportes van todos los Jueves a jugar con los niños del colegio Puelmapu; o como algunos de uds. ya saben, a planificar el mural que se pintaría al lado de las canchas de este mismo colegio. Los alumnos que ya han ido han respondido con gran entusiasmo, y varios de ellos quieren volver a repetir su experiencia.

Sports Marathon / Puelmapu (Opte)

Han pasado más de dos semanas desde el Sports Marathon, pero para algunos sigue siendo tema de conversación y fuente de anécdotas. Queremos agradecer a todos los que tomaron parte y prestaron de su tiempo y energía para lograr que este evento tuviera el éxito que tuvo: ¡8 millones de pesos en 24 horas! Queremos que el Sports Marathon se convierta en una tradición del Colegio Grange.Felicitaciones a todos y ojalá lo hayan disfrutado tanto como nosotros.

Ahora empezamos una nueva etapa dentro de acción social. Hoy nuestro primer grupo de alumnos de primero medio van al Colegio Puelmapu a hacer deportes o trabajar en proyectos de arte con niños de 5° y 6° básico. Hemos tenido la suerte que un grupo de ex-alumnos del Grange, estudiantes de Arte en la universidad, estan coordinando los talleres de arte, que culminaría en pintar un mural para el colegio.

Estamos contando con el apoyo de los apoderados (¡y con su transporte para sus hijos!)

More than two weeks have passed since the Sports Marathon, but the event still comes up in hallway conversations and is a source of fun anecdotes. We want to thank every single one of you who took part in making this event a success. And what a success it was! 8 million pesos in just 24 hours. We would like for the Sports Marathon to become a tradition here at the Grange. Congratulations to all of you and we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did.

Now we are starting a new page in social service. Our first group of 1st medio students are going to a school called Puelmapu to play sports or do art projects with the students, who are in 5th and 6th grade. We've been lucky enough to have been offered the help of some alumni who are now studying Art in college. They are coordinating the art workshops which would culminate in the painting of a mural on a large wall of the school.

We are counting on parents for support (and car rides for the students!)

The Grange:

La “Comunidad Grange”, en un nuevo esfuerzo por ayudar a quienes más lo necesitan, decidió organizar una locura que sólo pudo haber salido de nuestro colegio: una maratón deportiva que dure desde el sábado 24 de abril a las 9:00 hasta el domingo 25 de abril a la misma hora. La actividad se realizará en las canchas, donde desde pequeños nos inculcaron los valores del fair play y el all-roundership; además constará de una variada gama de actividades y stands de alimentos que operarán toda la noche. Nuestra intención es por sobre todo, además de ayudar a los damnificados, reforzar el lazo transversal que nos une como “Comunidad”, por lo que es necesario tener inscritos a la mayor cantidad de Grangonians o relacionados (para más información consulte a sportsmarathon@grange.cl ).

Pero, ¿Qué significa la tan conocida “Comunidad” o “Espíritu Grangonian”? Personalmente, por muchos años he intentando atenerme a algo tangible como son, por ejemplo, los partidos de los sábados, Old Boys/ Girls, Dia del Colegio, Steeplechase, la amistad entre los ex-alumnos, etc. Pero salvo el Steeplechase, una vasta mayoría de colegios tiene actividades similares. Entonces, ¿Qué nos hace distintos a los demás? ¿Por qué la gente delata a los egresados del Grange tan facilmente? Probablemente muchas respuestas están formulándose en tu cabeza, pero creo que la más notoria es la del amor propio que siente un Old Boy/ Girl. No es sólo el hecho de venir los sábados a ver a tu hijo practicar un deporte. La diferencia está en la masiva afluencia de ex-alumnos que felizmente vuelven a su colegio, ya sea para recordar antiguas anécdotas con sus amigos, saludar al Pepe o algún profesor de infancia. También puede ser el fervor que se siente en cada partido de Old Boys, el ambiente único del Steeplechase o simplemente ver que en tu cumpleaños de 40, la gran mayoría de tus invitados son ex-compañeros de tu colegio. Nuestro colegio te marca, por así decirlo, con un gran gryphon en el corazón. Un gryphon que mostramos con orgullo y amor. Un gryphon que hoy día te da la posibilidad de revivir tus recuerdos colegiales a través de una obra caritativa.

Es por eso que dejó la invitación abierta a todos los miembros de la Comunidad Grange. Espero que nos acompañen.Por nuestra parte,como organizadores,les puedo asegurar que hemos asumido un compromiso, nunca antes visto, por lograr hacer un evento familiar, donde la entretención predominará por sobre la competitividad.

Sports Marathon 1st medio

The countdown has begun! Only 10 more days until the Sports Marathon: the wheels are turning, everything is falling into place...but only with your HELP! The 1st medio Team is in charge of making 4 simple things into a smashing success. What are these, you may ask?

Here you go:

1. We are organizing a game of Giant Twister. We have already collected 8 of these, so if you have this game lying around the house, dusty and forgotten, lend us a hand and let the Grange borrow it! We will tape/sew them all together and form a giant "board." The last person standing wins a prize...WHAT this prize will be is what we need help with. What can be donated that people would like to win?

2. "Ring the Bell" is another activity we have come up with. There will be a list of songs that will be played and people have to run as quickly as they can to ring the bell and sing the song, proving that they know it. Once again, we would need prizes for these...

3. 1st medio will be selling anticuchos with the asado. We already have the meat, but we are missing the other elements desired in a delicious anticucho, such as onions, peppers, sausages, etc. We need your contributions to get these ingredients and your helping hands to make them!

4. Just when people think that they are running out of energy, we will be there to support them, and more importantly, FEED them. We are planning a 02:00 a.m. Bakesale to give players the sugar-rush they need. Bakers, to your cakes! If you have an awe-inspiring brownie recipe, if your grandmother has shared the secret to her life-altering cookies, please go ahead and delight us! If you have a way of getting free cookies/cakes/pies/doughnuts/etc. let us know!

We are looking forward to hearing from you and seeing you the 24th-25th of April.

¡La cuenta regresiva ha comenzado! Quedan sólo 10 días hasta la Maratón deportiva, todo está saliendo, cayendo en su luga… ¡pero sólo con su ayuda! El Equipo de 1° medio está encargado de lograr que 4 cosas simples se conviertan en un gran éxito. Se preguntarán: ¿Cuáles son estas 4 cosas?

Aquí van:

1. Estamos organizando un juego de Twister gigante. Ya hemos recolectado 8 de estos, así que si tienen este juego dando vueltas en su casa, les pedimos que se lo presten al Grange para que podamos pegar/coserlos juntos y formar un “tablero” gigante. La última persona de pie se gana un premio. Ahora, QUÉ premio sería es donde necesitamos ayuda. ¿Qué se puede donar que a la gente le gustaría ganar?

2. “Tocar la Campana” o “Si se la sabe, cante” es otra actividad que se nos ocurrió. Habrá una lista de canciones que serán tocadas y la gente tiene que correr lo más rápido posible para tocar una campana y cantar la canción, demostrando que se la saben. Pero una vez más, necesitaríamos premios para esto.

3. El primero medio estará vendiendo anticuchos en el asado. Ya tenemos la carne, pero nos faltan los otros elementos que componen un anticucho delicioso, como las cebollas, pimentones, salchichas, etc. ¡Necesitamos que nos ayuden a juntar estos ingredientes y de sus manos para ayudar armarlos!

4. Justo cuando las personas creen que se les está acabando la energía, estamos ahí para apoyarlos, pero aún mejor, ALIMENTARLOS. Estamos planeando un Bakesale a las 2:00a.m para darles a los jugadores el azúcar cuando más lo necesiten. ¡Asi que pasteleros a sus pasteles! Si tienen la receta de unos brownies inspiradores, si su abuelita ha compartido el ingrediente secreto de sus galletas maravillosas: ¡por favor no duden en deleitar a otros! Si es que saben de una manera de conseguir galletas/pasteles/queques/tortas/donas gratis, ¡avisen por favor!

Yerba Loca!

Era una mañana que hacia mucho frío, todos estaban preparados para un dia de sol, habían muchas personas en shorts y los mas avispados con buzos. Mucha gente que no era del nivel se preguntaban porque estábamos vestidos así, donde íbamos y porque llevábamos tanta agua…

La respuesta era vamos a YERBA LOCA!

Todo el mundo estaba muy entusiasmado con la idea de perder un dia de clases, además que también íbamos a pasarla bien un rato. En el bus hicimos todo lo que no hacemos en clases ibam0s conversando, escuchando música, sacando fotos, comiendo chicle, en una palabra disfrutando de la buena vida con nuestros amigos.

Cuando finalmente llegamos a este renombrado lugar llamado YERBA LOCA, que ya casi todo el mundo sabia de lo que se trataba gracias a nuestros amigos del nivel que nos contaron todo lo que hicimos, el entusiasmo, la impaciencia y la alegría se veían por todas nuestras caras. Tuvimos que caminar un poco para reunirnos en la parte de entrada del Centro de Desafíos, para encontrarnos con todo el equipo de Latitud 90 para que nos hablaran de las reglas de seguridad, de las reglas del paseo y otra vez preguntarnos si habíamos traído los 2 litros de aguaque íbamos a necesitar porque habría mucho calor, y créanme hizo mucho calor. Después de todo lo formal se armaron los grupos de trabajo y manos a la obra! A partir haciendo los desafíos!

Con las personas en que te toco en tu grupo, fue muy interesante, porque eran gente que no conversabas tanto ni te juntabas tanto, lo que fue la oportunidad perfecta para conocernos mejor, y a ver si por ahí encontrabas a un nuevo amigo. Casi la gran mayoría de los desafíos se centraban en temas muy importantes, el trabajo en equipo, la comunicación, el respeto, la confianza, y la amistad.

En todos los desafíos de equipo, tuvimos que tener una estrategia para llegar a nuestra meta, tuvimos que escucharnos los unos a los otros para decidir cual era la mejor estrategia o co-crearla todos juntos para salir exitosos del desafío, mejor que nadie lo esperaba. Tuvimos un fuerte trabajo en equipo, todas las personas del equipo haciendo lo mejor posible, así para ayudar al equipo lograra terminar la prueba. Aunque no todo fue color de rosa, por ahí siempre hubieron sus pequeñas peleas, desencuentros y algunos enojados. Pero al final de cada prueba todo el mundo tenia una sonrisa en la cara.

Otra cosa, fueron los desafíos individuales como el TRAPECIO. En que TU estabas solo sin ninguna ayuda subiendo un enorme palo de madera para subirse arriba y saltar desde una plataforma muy chica al trapecio en que estaba al frente. Lo que nos ayudo, a saltar al trapecio fue que siempre nosotros sabíamos que teníamos a nuestros amigos abajo apoyándonos y dándonos palabras de aliento.

Cuando fue la hora del almuerzo, nos pudimos reunir con toda la gente de los dos cursos y comentar como era nuestro grupo, que nos había tocado como desafío hasta hora, lo que nos faltaba por hacer, el calor que hacia y si tenias algo rico para beber. Después, del almuerzo disfrutamos de un pequeño recreo en el cual lo usamos para sacarnos muchas fotos como recuerdos de Hierba Loca. Mas tarde volvimos a los desafíos…

Para muchos el desafío mas choro fue el muro. había que escalar un muro de mas o menos 3.5 m. Liso sin ninguna ayuda, excepto nosotros mismos. Esta fue la prueba en que tuvimos que pensar mas en una estrategia para llegar arriba. Ahí fue donde todos nos dimos cuenta lo importante que es el trabajo de equipo, el respeto y la comunicación.

A la vuelta en el bus todos estábamos muy satisfechos con esta experiencia que tuvimos con nuestros compañeros, aprendimos tantas cosas importantes para salir adelante en las cosas difíciles de la vida, nos conocimos mucho mas entre nosotros. además, que quedamos con las ganas de volver a ir denuevo! Un dia fue muy poco!

CHARITY SPORTS MARATHON!

Charity Sports Marathon

The Grange staff and pupils would like to invite you to take part in our Charity Sports Marathon. The event will take place:

on Saturday, 24th April from 09:00

until Sunday, 25th at 09:00

at The Grange School

The idea is to run at least two simultaneous games of football and volleyball, being played for a period of 24 hours. We are looking for teams in Prep School from 09:00 until 17:00; Senior School teams will participate from 17:00 onwards; finally, adults from midnight onwards... Everyone is invited to participate in sporting events: parents, grandparents, and “co-ed” teams. All pupils and their family members are equally welcome to participate!

Our aim is to raise as much money as possible in support of reconstruction in Chile; more information can be found on our website. In order to do this, each team must raise a minimum of CH$ 5.000 per person. Teams will consist of 6 players for volleyball and 7 players for football. As well as this, there will be various other services and events on offer including food, alternative entertainment, games and music.

We are looking for teams to compete in our adult section between midnight and 09:00. Each slot lasts for an hour, so for example the first slot will be from 12:00 A.M until 1:00 A.M. However, this does not mean you can only compete in one slot. The idea is for teams to roll-on and off allowing the game to continue for as long as possible.

There are over 35 teams entering from The Grange School and Teaching Staff already, so it is very important that you confirm your attendance as soon as possible. Although spaces are limited, we will do our best to fit every team that wants to enter the event. With all the extra games and entertainment it promises to be an extremely rewarding day for everyone and a great chance to provide help and relief to the south of the country.

El staff de profesores y los alumnos del Grange los quiere invitar a participar en nuestra Maratón de Deportes para la Caridad. Este evento tendría lugar el:

Sábado 24 de Abril desde las 09:00

hasta las 09:00 del Domingo 25 de Abril

en el Colegio Grange

La idea es tener por lo menos dos juegos simultáneos de fútbol y vóleibol que serían jugados por 24 horas seguidas. Estamos buscando equipos del Prep School que jueguen desde las 09:00 hasta las 17:00. Los equipos de Senior School participarían desde las 5:00 P.M. en adelante. Finalmente, los adultos jugarían desde la medianoche en adelante. Queremos destacar que no sólo los alumnos estan invitados a jugar. ¡Están bienvenidos también los abuelos, apoderados y equipos mixtos!

Nuestro objetivo es recaudar el máximo de dinero posible para la reconstrucción en Chile. Pueden encontrar más información en nuestra página web. Para lograr este objetivo, cada equipo necesita aportar con un mínimo de 5.000 pesos por persona. Los equipos consisten de 6 jugadores de voleibol y 7 de fútbol. Además de esto, habría varios otros eventos y servicios que se ofrecerían tales como comida, entretención alternativa y música.

Estamos buscando equipos que compitan en los bloques para adultos; entre la medianoche y 09:00. Cada bloque dura una hora, por ejemplo, el primer bloque duraría de 12:00 A.M a 1:00 A.M. Sin embargo, esto no significa que sólo pueden competir en un solo bloque. La idea es que los equipos sigan jugando mientras avanza la noche, permitiendo que el juego continúe el mayor tiempo posible.

Hay más de 35 equipos provenientes del Colegio Grange y su staff de profesores, así que es muy importante que confirmen su participación lo antes posible. Aunque el espacio es limitado, haremos lo posible para que todos los equipos que quieran integrarse a nuestro evento puedan hacerlo. Dado los variados tipos de entretención, este día promete ser uno muy gratificante para los que participarían, y nos entrega una oportunidad para proveerle ayuda al sur utilizando un espíritu de sana competencia y compañerismo.

Good morning! It's a gray Wednesday and there is lots to be done. We hope this week flies by for all of you so that you may get some much deserved rest.

Our more pressing order of business is the General Meeting we have with the 1st Medio parents on Monday 22nd in the Rivas Hall at 7:30PM sharp. We encourage all parents to come, in order to ensure a good and thorough communication between parents and teachers throughout the school year. Some report cards from 2009 remain unsigned, so you could kill two birds with one stone by showing up.

We are also looking forward to the upcoming outdoor activity we have with the kids. The last three days of March, from 8:30 in the morning until 5:30 in the afternoon, the 1st medio classes will be in Centro de Desafío "Lo Hermita" in Villa Paulina, Yerba Loca where they will be doing activities promoting communication, tolerance, respect, teamwork and confidence as well as promoting an interest and general knowledge of Nature.

1st Medio A & F will go Monday March 29th
1st Medio B & E will go Tuesday March 30th
1st Medio C & D will go Wednesday March 31st

We can't wait.

Last but not least, it is important that the students are informed of the different activities that are going on, whether they are during school hours or extracurricular ones. Buenos días! Es un día gris y hay mucho que hacer. Ojalá esta semana vuele para todos ustedes y puedan descansar mucho.
Lo más importante que cabe destacar es la Reunión General con los apoderados de todos los cursos del nivel 1°Medio. Este sería el Lunes 22 de Marzo en la sala Rivas Hall a las 7:30PM en punto. Los animamos a venir, para asegurar una buena y cuidadosa comunicación entre padres y profesores. Algunos Report Cards del año pasado siguen sin firmar, asi que pueden matar dos pájaros de un tiro cuando se presenten el Lunes.

Con mucho entusiasmo, también les contamos que los últimos tres días de Marzo los alumnos del 1st medio participarán en un programa de formación al aire libre. Esto consiste en que los alumnos irían por un día a Villa Paulina en Yerba Loca, a un Centro de Desafío donde tendrían ejercicios que promueven la comunicación, tolerancia, respeto, trabajo en equipo y confianza de los alumnos como también promueven el interés por la Naturaleza y su conocimiento.

Welcome back to the 2010 school year!!! It has been a bit of a rocky start to the year but we must go ahead and get started on our annual projects regardless of the circumstances. As many of you already know The Grange has become quite active in providing help to those affected by the earthquake. We are working in two areas; one is the fund that we have begun to provide money to the International Red Cross. Donations for this fund will be open until Friday so lets give one last immediate push to help those in need. As the Rector said in his year opening speech, if everyone donated the cost of a DVD we could reach our goals.

The second area is much more immediate. Up until tomorrow we will be accepting donations to put together hygienic kits that will also be donated to the Red Cross. Thanks to all the hard work of the parents, old grangonians, students and staff we have been able to put together over 700 kits!! There is still time to put together more kits, so go out and get a couple extra bars of deodorant and bring them in!

Now on to business. This 1st medio blog has been created to keep parents and students informed of what is happening in first medio. Every week it will be updated with academic information, pastoral and social service dates, and even some contributions from the student body. We would like to keep you informed of what is happening in our level and what we have planned so that you can contribute and collaborate.

Bienvenidos a nuestro año escolar 2010!

Hemos comenzado el año de manera algo rocosa pero tenemos que seguir, salir adelante y empezar nuestros proyectos anuales a pesar de las circunstancias. Como ya muchos de ustedes saben, el Grange ha entregado ayuda a los afectados por el terremoto de manera muy activa. Estamos trabajando en dos áreas: uno es el fondo que hemos empezado para proveer dinero a la Cruz Roja Internacional. Las contribuciones para este fondo serán aceptadas hasta éste Viernes, así que tratemos de darle un último impulso hacia adelante para aquellos que lo necesitan más. Como dijo el rector en su discurso de inicio, si es que todos donaran el precio de un DVD, podríamos alcanzar nuestra meta.

La segunda área es bastante más inmediata. Estamos aceptando donaciones hasta mañana, para armar kits de higiene que también serán donados a la Cruz Roja. Gracias al trabajo arduo de los apoderados, Old Grangonians, estudiantes y staff, hemos sido capaces de juntar más de 700 kits!! Todavía hay tiempo para juntar más, así que salgan y compren un par de barras extras de desodorante y traiganlas!

Ahora al punto: Este blog de 1st medio ha sido creado para mantener a los padres y alumnos informados de lo que esta ocurriendo en primero medio. Cada semana será actualizado con información académica, información de pastoral, además de fechas de servicio social y hasta contaría con algunas contribuciones de los propios alumnos. Nos gustaría mantenerlos informados de lo que esta pasando y de lo que tenemos planeado para nuestro nivel, para que así puedan contribuir y colaborar.

Estimados alumnos, alumnas y apoderados de 1º Medio:

Queremos recordarles que los exámenes comienzan el día lunes 07 de diciembre, y toda esta semana y el mismo 07 de diciembre, el horario del Colegio continúa siendo el regular (08:00 a 16:00 hrs).

Las autorizaciones para salir del Colegio solo se realizarán a través de una comunicación formal enviada por el apoderado en la Agenda del Colegio. Las ausencias a clases deben ser justificadas por el apoderado con una comunicación, también a través de la Agenda del Colegio. Si la inasistencia se prolonga por más de dos días, se debe presentar un Certificado Médico.

Les rogamos cumplir con estas normas y ausentarse solo en casos absolutamente necesarios, pues estamos en período de repasos para los exámenes, etapa fundamental para profundizar y complementar el estudio.

Saturday detentions. They are one of those things that you never want to experience in life. It is 2 hours in a large room separated from your peers, with nothing to do except to read your boring Spanish “novel” or to look over your chemistry books. Being optimistic, It’s almost like a normal detention, except longer, more boring, and on a SATURDAY MORNING.
In these Saturday detentions, there are only two rules:

1. No sleeping (or trying to fall asleep)
2. No talking

It may sound simple, and you can think that you can MAYBE survive this bewitched torture, but no one ever tells you about the 2 clocks that they put in the front of the room.
These cursed clocks somehow slow down time, making you suffer even more. How do they do it, I don’t know, but the only thing I know is that they actually make time go more slowly. For example, you are reading your book, and you get up to page 50. You obviously must think that there are 30 minutes to go until freedom. When you look up to that nasty clock, it shows that you have only been in the detention for 15 minutes. That is how these cursed clocks work.
Furthermore, you wake up at 7:00 to get to school at 8:00, when you came back at 2:00 from your massive carrete. And they tell you cannot sleep in the detention. Indeed, Saturday detentions are outrageous, horrible, and hopefully you never get one.

Fin de un ciclo

Comenzamos a cerrar un ciclo y es momento de evaluar nuestro trabajo. Ha sido un buen año, un año de esfuerzo y perseverancia, en el que hemos aprendido y hemos crecido académica y personalmente. Ahora, solo quedan unas pocas semanas para comenzar los exámenes y cerrar de manera definitiva nuestro paso por 1º Medio. Queremos felicitarlos a todos, pues sabemos que ha sido un arduo año de trabajo. Deseamos felicitarlos por todo lo que han hecho en el área académica, pero por sobre todo, por la motivación y el trabajo en Acción Social, pues sabemos que Puelmapu tendrá una Biblioteca maravillosa gracias a todos ustedes, y los niños podrán continuar educándose y creciendo, como ustedes mismos lo hacen cada día.

Es hora de comenzar a organizar los estudios y repasos, para rendir los exámenes con tranquilidad y preparación. Confiamos en que obtendrán excelentes resultados, y que los meses de esfuerzo y aprendizaje se verán recompensados con las merecidas vacaciones.

Aprovechen estas semanas para planificar sus sesiones de estudio y así podrán optimizar y aprovechar mejor el tiempo. Si necesitan ayuda, pueden acudir a nosotros cuando quieran. ¡Vamos! ¡Es el último esfuerzo!

It’s coming towards the end of the year and there is growing anxiousness about the exams. Now is the time that we need to start getting ourselves organised and start studying. The exam timetable has been published in the shared Gmail account. Don’t forget, in addition, to check the link on effective study habits on this blog.

You will not be able to see your 3rd nota until around the 27th of November because Schoolnet will be closed to allow teachers to enter all their marks, resit tests and any changes they need to make. For that reason Colegium does not publish any notas two weeks before or one week after the nota due dates so you will not be able to see any grades until the end of the month.

Make sure to keep checking the email account because we have requested that 1st medio teachers upload any exam material that may be helpful to you. I will send reminders through Facebook.

Good luck studying and lets finish the school year with a good effort!!

Extreme Makeover Puelmapu Design

El 17 de diciembre llevaremos a cabo nuestro Proyecto “Extreme Makeover Puelmapu”. Como ya saben, vamos a ir a Puelmapu a pasar el día arreglando las salas de clases, entregando un regalo maravilloso para los niños del Colegio: nuestra ayuda y nuestro compromiso.

Iremos vestidos con poleras especiales que ustedes mismos podrán diseñar. Los invitamos a todos a participar en el diseño del logo de las poleras. Las instrucciones son las siguientes:

- Deben diseñar un logo, que irá impreso en las poleras, que obligatoriamente debe llevar los logos del Colegio Grange, el logo de OPTE y el logo de Puelmapu (que podrán encontrar en este post).
- Pueden realizar el diseño que ustedes quieran, pero debe tener los tres logos.
- Deben enviar el diseño digitalizado a Mr. Mike Avis (mavis@grange.cl) o Miss Maggie Smith (msmith@grange.cl).
- El plazo de entrega es desde el miércoles 04 de noviembre al miércoles 11 de noviembre.
- El logo ganador será elegido por el equipo de Pastoral de 1º Medio.

Steeplechase History

What's changed since 1935?

• The Steeplechase was run on Saturday 27th April.
• The seniors (age 14-16yrs) raced over 4 miles (6.2 km)
• The Intermediate (age 11-13 yrs) raced about 3 miles (4.8km)
• The Junior (age 7-10) raced roughly 1 mile (1.6km).
• The course started on Sr.Guzman Montt’s farm & ended where the last hurdle was the traditional water jump in the Country Club.
• The course included the usual run over ploughed fields, fences, walls & ditches.
• Juniors race was won by G.A Paulsen
• Intermediate race had a very close finish & was won by B.T.F Rowlands
• The senior run was easily won by G.K.Walbaum
• The boys had to use stockings according to their colour!!!

So now, everyone should be ready to run! Good luck and enjoy the poso!

Band Slam

Thanks to all the students, parents and teachers who participated in the Band Slam event. Altough perhaps the sales and attendance were not what we had expected, the enthusiasm of some of the students was nevertheless outstanding.

We would particularly like to thank Prof. Richard Quezada for his tireless work in organising and promoting the event. A reminder that the proceeds of Band Slam will be used to organise an end of year celebration with 1st medio and the students at Puelmapu. We look forward to working with the class delagates, tutores and pupils to plan an unforgettable end of year event!

As many know, there was a large “fiesta de 15” on last Saturday, and everyone in the grade was invited by a series of fancy invitations. The lucky birthday girl was Cata Olavarria, and her birthday bash was definitely one to remember. Between the everlasting dance moves upon the disco floor and the gossipy chitchat outside, this party was a get-together to look back upon. Don’t let this groovy happening fool you though, since there was a strict troop of security at this “carrete”.

The party started at 10:00 PM and finished at 2:00 AM. These hip 4 hours were jam packed with some crucial boogie, some hardcore chitchat, and some outrageously extreme birthday celebrations. It was located at the Club de Polo, in Vitacura. There were delicious snacks served, such as pizzetas, potato chips, candies, and a numerous amount of thirst quenching beverages such as Coke, Sprite, and raspberry juice. The room contained a disc jockey that created an intense atmosphere of perreo. The music played was mostly reggaeton, which is mainly used in nowadays “cool” parties, but the DJ was sure to add a little spice into the environment, by playing some cumbia/salsa.

The birthday girl was given many gifts at her party, the way a birthday girl should. Rumor has it that she was given articles such as shorts, gift cards, and watches, among other lovely gifts. She was wearing a dazzling pink dress that made her look as if she was a princess. The DJ was kind enough to show a presentation on Cata’s life with her friends and family. This was a very emotional moment for everyone present, and several tears were shed.

Overall, this sweet 15 was a once in a lifetime party, and it is absolutely one to remember.

One legendary figure has always been with us since our younger years, always there, always supporting, during our wins and during our losses. Pepe. Few actually know this mystical individual known as Pepe, even though he knows all of us, and more importantly, he knows how much we owe him. His kiosk is a social, economic, and sometimes even political (during the C.A.A. elections) place, and his kiosk is a symbol of the Grange. His quesas, galletas,and muffins are the food of every true Grangonian, and that’s why I have interviewed him for the real facts on Pepe.

1D has decided to suspend the volleyball tournament until the 2nd and 9th of October due to the large number of absences anticipated for Friday the 25th of September. We are also looking at modifying the date for the Movie Premier on the 14th of October because of conflict with the Chile-Ecuador football game. We will keep you posted on any new developments.

Hemos regresado de las merecidas vacaciones de Fiestas Patrias y estamos descansados y preparados para comenzar la última etapa del año escolar. Les deseamos que este período final sea una excelente experiencia en lo académico, personal y emocional. ¡Es el último gran esfuerzo!

Queremos recordarles que este viernes 25 de septiembre el 1º D llevará a cabo el Torneo de Volleyball y el 1º E un Bake Sale, ambas actividades orientadas a recaudar fondos para nuestro proyecto de Acción Social en Puelmapu. Los invitamos a participar activamente, aportando con dinero, entusiasmo y motivación. Es urgente que juntemos más fondos, pues Puelmapu cuenta con nuestro apoyo, y como Colegio Grange debemos demostrar que somos una comunidad colaboradora, perseverante y comprometida.

Felicitamos a Victoria Salata, Cristóbal Walbaum y José Pedro Maldonado, quienes forman parte del plantel Sub 16 de la Federación Chilena de Hockey sobre Césped, y jugarán en el Torneo Abierto en la ciudad de Salta, Argentina, durante los días 29 de septiembre a 05 de octubre. ¡Nos sentimos muy orgullosos de los tres! ¡Felicitaciones y éxito!

It has been a good first half of the second term. There was a very successful gathering of 1^st medio parents at the Prince of Wales Country Club organized by Veronica Mardones. It was nice to meet parents and chat about things other than school; thanks for the invitation Veronica! We have also started organizing fundraising events for OPTE for the second semester. The dates for the various events are as follows:

1C Taca-taca tournament – This week at lunch time

The first medios as a group have been very active in supporting Puelmapu and have found that the experience has been very rewarding. In fact, all our hard work is coming to fruition because the new library is almost ready and we are finishing our last article of furniture as well as fixing some desks students use. There will be an official inauguration of the library in October with the date to be decided soon. Finally, Ana Maria Hirmes (Isi Gutierrez’s mother) is offering her artistic services in partnership with Loreto Zuñiga to help out with Art workshops on Tuesdays. Your help is greatly appreciated Ana Maria.

Since 8^th Basico, all of us have been obliged to choose and study an IGCSE elective, between:

Although we may have friends in many of these electives, we really do not know much more about them. Which is the best? Which is the easiest? Which has the best teacher?

A survey was made of a select few of 1^st Medio students in each IGCSE elective, comparing certain vital aspects of the class, such as:

Ø Who is your teacher?

Ø What do you have to do?

Ø Is it hard?

Ø Is it fun?

Ø Do you recommend it to others?

Based on the answers provided by these students, YOU yourself can decide:

Which is the best? Which is the easiest? Which has the best teacher?

ART:

Antonia Sepulveda’s thoughts about art are the following:

Ø Teacher: My teacher is Mrs. Vivian Mohrning.

Ø What do you have to do: Our class mostly consists of constant work, whether it is gathering ideas for our project, the process of creating it or adding the finishing touches to the pieces we have made.

Ø Level of Difficulty: I find it to be an extremely entertaining class although it is not easy; I must say that a few rough moments are included in handling your work but it is worth it in the end.

Ø Recommendable: I would recommend this class to others, although i would say that art is a time consuming activity and you have to really like what you’re doing or you will not enjoy the class. You do not have to have 'talent' to join but the urge and delight in working with different materials, colors, lights, etc.

DRAMA:

Francisca Kupfer answered:

Ø Teacher: Miss Francisca (Van Yurick)

Ø What do you have to do: Be ready for anything... Impersonate, humiliate yourself, improvise, write a huge portfolio, stretch + exercise, create or follow a script, have fun, listen to teachers explain crazy and abstract concepts about the complex world of drama, etc. But most important of all, us drama students eventually turn out to be a family :)

Ø Hard: Yes.

Ø Fun: Most of times.

Ø Recommended: Only if you are someone slightly creative and with enough time.

BUSINESS:

Benjamin Cosoi, a man of few words, barely explained:

Ø Teacher: Lucho Urzua

Ø What do you have to do: We have learned how to start a business, how to finance it, the types of business, and communications in businesses, the workers and how to locate the business.

Ø Hard: Yes

Ø Fun: Mas o menos

Ø Recommended: Yes

FRENCH:

Jose Tomas Lafuente recently opened up with his thoughts about French:

Ø Teacher: Marylin Reuter

Ø What do you have to do: French. Apart from learning to speak and pronounce words, we do a lot more spelling, grammar, etc. exercises. We also do "projects", usually in groups, where we apply what we learned in the last unit.

Ø Hard: not that hard. We will probably end up doing more tests than other IGSCE's, but they are shorter and easier than others. if you don't understand something, the teacher will help you, it's not too complicated anyways.

Ø Fun: yes. Learning French isn't too hard, and the activities we do are also good, so it's a fun class.

Ø Recommended: if you're interested, you should choose it. if you're not sure which one to take, between French and another one, it depends on you, but I definitely recommend French. Learning another language can be very helpful in the future.

P.E:

Martin “Flippy” Ulloa has confidently expressed his inner feelings towards P.E:

Ø Teacher: Mr Wakefield

Ø What do you have to do: We learn about our bodies and how they react to sport. we also learn how we should feed them. We additionally do sports activities and see how we feel and stuff. We do lots of activities where we have to take notes on results.

Ø Hard: No, it just like doing P.E.

Ø Fun: Yes, because I really like sports

Ø Recommended: Yes because you do sports..

HISTORY:

Ø What do you have to do: read sources, Answer questions, practice for essays.

Ø Hard: you won´t find it difficult if you pay attention in class and do work.

Ø Fun: Yes it’s an interesting theme to study, we also watch movies.

Ø Recommended: Yes you will love it if you like modern history, in the 20th century, even though it’s a little bit hard sometimes

Son las seis de la mañana, un día lunes, los trabajadores se ven por las calles de santiago acercándose a su destino de trabajo se los ve usualmente con un café en mano y el diario en la otra.

“el mercurio, el mercurio”, se escucha gritar a los vendedores con capuchas verdes con las llamativas portadas que se posan en sus brazos, la gente desde los autos le manda una señal y el vendedor llega con un mercurio por la ventana. En otros lados se puede ver estos gruesos rollos de papel colgados de un desgastado cordel en el kiosco de la esquina. Un hecho tan cotidiano como este no nos trae varios cuestionamientos pero ¿alguna vez has pensado que es trabajar en un diario, cual es el esfuerzo detrás de una página grisácea del diario?

Trabajar en un diario NO es tarea fácil, miles de periodistas, diseñadores gráficos, y muchos más trabajan horas inimaginables para traernos los hechos de la actualidad junto a nosotros.

El mercurio a pesar d ser uno de los diarios más antiguo hay una tecnología muy avanzada la cual da la calidad tan prestigiada del diario; bueno nosotros tuvimos el privilegio de hacer una visita a ver como es el proceso de la creación de el diario.

Empezamos con una introducción de ana María (guia) de como fueron las primeras formas de crear el diario , partió con una maquina en la que tenían que una por una poner las letras en unos espacios para que pudieran crear palabras y fases hasta tener una plana completamente hecha (todo esto era a mano y tomaba mucho tiempo )cuando tenían esto armado ( todo tenia que ser al contrario de cómo un lee para así al imprimir quede bien ) pasaban una brocha o algo por el estilo para ponerle la tinta y le ponían la hoja en blanco y le aplicaban presión y así se copiaba al papel. Para mi fue muy interesante como era la forma en la que se hacían los diarios, porque es difícil imaginar todo el proceso, y también lo difícil que podía ser porque nosotros nacimos con la tecnología actual funcionando.

Nos comenta que el esfuerzo que la gente le dedicaba a todo esto era mucho y que el tiempo que se demoraban en tan solo hacer una hoja eran horas pero con le avance de la tecnología en estos días todo este proceso es con maquinas muy avanzadas en las que en general lo único que ase una persona es controlar que funcionen bien. Es increíble que en tan poco tiempo se haya podido pasar del antiguo proceso al que utilizan actualmente.

También mostró las oficinas en donde trabajan todos lo periodistas y nos explico como era el proceso de un día trabajando ahí en que sectores y como estaban divididas las personas por su especificación en los ámbitos de noticia nacional, deporte, internacional, imagen, correcciones, etc.

Le preguntamos por la reciente aparición de ciencia y tecnología como sección del diario y nos dijo que antes había una revista dedicada para estos temas pero que por su poca demanda decidieron hacerla parte del diario como cualquier otra sección.

También preguntamos porque no dejaban de publicar el diario en hoja y lo hacían vía red, y su respuesta fue que el diario y el Internet no tenían nada que ver y que no se deja de hacer porque el diario es un método preferido por mucha gente que no se maneja en el computador pero que para otras que no tienen el tiempo de leerlo, en el trabajo se conecten a la pagina del diario y así pueden ver las noticias que se publican en Internet.

Nos mostraron los colores que usan para imprimir el diario setos eran: negro, amarillo, rojo y azul. Es increíble como con tan básicos colores pueden hacer que la imagen siga viéndose bien a pesar de que llegan con una gran variedad de colores y tengan que reducirla a 4 colores, y así podemos ver lo difícil q debe ser para los diseñadores gráficos el poder hacer que las imágenes queden tan bien.

Vimos toda la maquinaria que utilizan para hacer el diario y pudimos ver también lo millones de rollos de diario de aproximadamente mas de un metro de ancho de estos y mucho más.

Fue una experiencia muy interesante y pudimos aprender más de cómo mucha gente trabaja para que tengamos a la vuelta del a esquina un diario con todo lo que preocupa al país.

Celebración Día del Colegio

Felicitamos a todos los que participaron en la Celebración del Día del Colegio, el pasado jueves 13 y viernes 14 de agosto. El nivel de 1º Medio se involucró activamente en las actividades, demostrando un alto nivel de compromiso, mucha creatividad y un gran desplante. Felicitamos a nuestra reina Itziar Aldea y a nuestro rey Carlos Singer, quienes con entusiasmo, imaginación y espontaneidad, representaron a todo el nivel, haciéndonos sentir orgullosos de su participación. Asimismo, felicitamos a todos los alumnos que actuaron en la presentación del nivel basada en “Star Wars”, ¡salió excelente!!

Hoy se llevarán a cabo las elecciones de Centro de Alumnos. Cuatro de nuestros alumnos participan en estas elecciones, pues son los representantes del nivel: Benjamín Varela (Listeners), Paula Macdonald (Boo-list) e Isidora Gutiérrez (Radicalista). Es fundamental tomar estas instancias con seriedad y responsabilidad, pues están eligiendo al grupo de alumnos que los apoyará y representará durante un año completo. Les deseamos éxito a las tres listas de 3º Medio y ¡qué gane el mejor!

The Weekly Update – August 5th, 2009

Visits to Puelmapu started again this week, with a group of girls participating in an art workshop at the school on Tuesday afternoon. In addition, the library furniture is being finished and will be delivered to the school next week. For the second semester we would like to re-start fundraising activities and collect funds for maintenance and repairs of classrooms. Finally, we are looking at organizing and end of year party at Puelmapu so please be attentive of any upcoming information.

Maria de la Luz Brucher has been appointed as student coordinator of social service activities and we would like to thank her for her enthusiasm and initiative. Vanessa Hites sent a short comment about her experience at Puelmapu; thanks Vanessa!

OPTE

Con mi grupo fuimos unos de los primeros en ir a OPTE, con nuestra Miss Jefe y la delegada de curso.Fue una experiencia maravillosa e increíble que no se olvida, uno realmente llega a conocer a los niños, pasarlo bien y de cierta forma encariñarse con ellos.
No se puede perder la oportunidad de comenzar una actividad que recién está comenzando y que ojalá permanezca, porque el Grange quiere que seamos una de esas pocas personas que cada vez se desvanecen, una de esas que ayuda sin esperar recibir nada a cambio y una ¡qué disfruta todo!
Y recuerden que está en SUS MANOS la opción de poder ayudar, ayudar como puedan y no solo en lo material, sino que tan solo pasarlo bien con un niño y robarle una sonrisa.

Bienvenidos al Segundo Semestre

Queridos alumnos y apoderados de 1º Medio:

Esperamos que hayan descansado en las vacaciones, para así comenzar este segundo semestre con energía, optimismo y motivación. Los invitamos a trabajar con entusiasmo desde el primer día de clases, y para esto, les entregamos información importante para comenzar el semestre.

Schoolnet estará disponible a partir del 04 hasta el 10 de agosto. Durante estos días, podrán acceder al sistema para revisar sus notas e información. El 10 de agosto se cierra Schoolnet, para habilitar el sistema para el 2º semestre.

Las fechas de exámenes recuperativos son las siguientes:

jueves 30 de julio: Matemáticas e Inglés
viernes 31 de julio: Sociales
lunes 03 de agosto: Castellano
martes 04 de agosto: Biologia
miércoles 05 de agosto: IT
jueves 06 de agosto: Quimica

Los exámenes se rendirán en el Exam Room, a partir de 16:10 a 17:30 horas. El/la alumno/a deberá presentar una autorización para rendir el examen recuperativo, escrita por la Asistente de Pastoral. Por esto, cada alumno deberá preocuparse de dirigirse a la oficina de Pastoral de 1º Medio para mostrar su justificación y recibir el pase o autorización.

El martes 04 de agosto, se reanudan los talleres artísticos (martes) y deportivos (jueves) en OPTE. Los talleres de carpintería comienzan el martes 28 de julio (martes y jueves). Les recordamos que pueden acceder a las fechas de los talleres, a través de la cuenta gmail (pastoralgrange@gmail.com / clave: johnjackson). La planilla que contiene fechas y talleres OPTE se encuentra en el buzón de la cuenta de correo electrónico.

Queremos contarles que para este semestre tenemos importantes metas. En primer lugar, nos interesa continuar enfatizando el Trabajo Social. Por lo tanto, seguiremos con las actividades en OPTE y dedicándonos a la recaudación de Fondos. En segunda instancia, uno de los objetivos más importantes para nuestro nivel, es la inauguración de la Biblioteca de Puelmapu.

En relación con el desarrollo del programa PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), continuaremos trabajando diferentes temas enfocados en el desarrollo integral de nuestros alumnos, a través de distintas actividades e interesantes charlas.

Finalmente, estamos trabajando para facilitar, aún más, el acceso a la información a través de nuestra cuenta de correo electrónico, con el fin de establecer un sistema más expedito y eficiente.

Les deseamos a todos un fantástico Segundo Semestre, comenzando desde ya con ánimo y vitalidad.

End of Term

Congratulations everyone on getting through a challenging semester. There have been some changes in 1st medio since last year and I think that everyone has adapted well in adjusting and continuing to work hard. Some reminders for the second semester:

Remember all 1st medios that the novel “Of Mice and Men” must be finished for the beginning of term 2 so take your books with you and enjoy the read on your free time.

There have been many comments from the Puelmapu School about how important and valuable our work with them has been. You have all; pupils, staff and parents really shown commitment to this project and it have been appreciated. Starting in term 2, we are back to the bi-weekly workshops and need to continue to build the furniture for the Puelmapu library. There will be an official inauguration in mid-to late-August so we must speed up our work to get done in time. Lastly, fundraising activities will start in the second term so get creative and get active!

The following 1st medio pupils were recognized for their outstanding effort in working with OPTE: Trini Muxica, Antonia Sepulveda, Emily Lynch, Itziar Aldea, and Francisca Martinez.

A sample of the new timetable has been sent to the shared Gmail account so make sure to check where you will be and be ready to start term 2 in an organized fashion.

Finally, we in the pastoral team want to wish you all a restful and enjoyable break and hope that you can return with the same energy that you have show all the 1st semester.

Just a reminder that the Senior school is functioning with regular classes until four o'clock in the afternoon every day this week except Friday where students may go home at 1:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Students should be staying in school until the regular programmed hours during those days.

The Weekly Update – July 29th

Welcome to exam week. As mentioned previously, we have started to include academic attachments to the 1st medio blog. These files can be accessed through the group Gmail account that can be found on the left side of the page and can be used as extra studying material for the upcoming exams.

You may have found that the School net is closed. The academic department is working on placing the grades on the net by Friday, July 3rd so that access can be available after that date. We will let you know when Schoolnet is up and running again.
After a very successful first month, the workshops at Puelmapu will be stopped for the month of July for exams and winter vacations. We will be starting up again with Carpentry on the 28th of July and with Puelmapu workshops on August the 4th. Check the OPTE timetable to see when you are scheduled. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to come and participate in the activities at the school.

Thank you for a successful parent-teacher evening; many parents attended and took advantage of the opportunity to discuss the progress of their children. In the future please remember that the evening is open to BOTH parents and pupils.

Bienvenidos al periodo de exámenes. Como lo mencionamos anteriormente, hemos comenzado a incluir adjuntos académicos en el Blog de 1º Medio. Es posible acceder a estos archivos a través de la cuenta electrónica Gmail, que puede ser encontrada en la parte izquierda de la página en pantalla; y puede ser utilizada como material de estudio extra, útil para los exámenes que se aproximan.

Probablemente se han percatado que el sistema intranet del Colegio está cerrado. El Departamento Académico está trabajando, colocando las calificaciones para el viernes 03 de Julio, por lo que se podrá acceder al sistema después de esta fecha. Les avisaremos cuando el sistema esté disponible.

Durante este exitoso primer mes de Trabajo Social, los talleres en Puelmapu serán cancelados durante el mes de Julio por exámenes y vacaciones. Comenzaremos nuevamente el 28 de Julio con Talleres de Carpintería (en el Colegio Grange) y con Talleres en Puelmapu el 04 de agosto. Pueden mirar el organigrama de OPTE para ver las fechas agendadas. Incentivamos e invitamos a nuestros apoderados para que participen en las actividades en el Colegio.

Agradecemos la presencia y participación de los apoderados en nuestra exitosa tarde de entrevistas con los profesores de asignatura. Muchos apoderados asistieron y aprovecharon la oportunidad para conversar sobre el progreso de sus hijos. En el futuro, recuerden que pueden asistir apoderados y alumnos a las entrevistas.

We have been working hard to incorporate new information to our 1st medio blog. We have added a slideshow option that will show the workshops and activities at Puelmapu and will be updated weekly. Most importantly there are new links that will be very helpful for 1st medio users. There is now a shared Gmail account where exam schedules and OPTE timetables and calendars are published. The username and password are provided which will allow on-line access of academic and pastoral files to all pupils and parents. There is also a very helpful blog link provided that details different ways to develop and strengthen study habits and to plan study time. In addition, a map for directions to Puelmapu school and a direct link to the OPTE website has been included.

We encourage everyone to try out this new system in helping to prepare for end of year exams.

UPDATE: 1st Medio parent-teacher meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 1st from 4:30 to 6:30. This is one of the only opportunities in the year for you to meet the subject teachers. Pupils and parents are invited to attend.

Talleres de Carpintería OPTE

Estimados alumnos, apoderados y profesores:

En primer lugar, queremos darles las gracias por el entusiasmo y el apoyo brindado en el trabajo de Acción Social que estamos realizando. Con la colaboración de cada uno de ustedes, este Proyecto continuará llevándose a cabo con la misma fuerza con que comenzamos.

En relación con este tema, queremos contarles que esta semana comenzaremos con los talleres de Carpintería. Cada grupo de trabajo, formado por los propios alumnos, eligió entre dos opciones: taller artístico o deportivo, y taller de carpintería o recolección de fondos. Quienes eligieron carpintería, trabajarán en el Colegio, después de clases de 16:00 a 17:00 horas, construyendo los muebles para la Biblioteca de Puelmapu. Esta labor, la realizarán en la Carpintería del Colegio y asesorados por nuestros auxiliares, a quienes agradecemos profundamente por la ayuda que nos prestan.

The Week in Review

Welcome back to school! It has been a very challenging time here at The Grange over the last weeks and we anticipate some more difficulties to come. Teacher and pupil absenteeism has been high which has necessitated shifting class schedules, modifying curricular development and altering class groups.

We are looking closely at the testing and exam schedule for the next weeks and are aware that there may be some heavy evaluation schedules to come. Each department will be responsible for the scheduling of tests, and with the assistance of the 1st medio pastoral office, we hope that we may minimalise the weight of testing and continue with meaningful teaching as much as possible. If there are any doubts about the testing schedule do not hesitate to contact us.

The First Taller

1st medio carried out their first Puelmapu workshop yesterday to great success. The students at Puelmapu were enthusiastic and excited to colour and draw outlines of themselves while sharing time with our pupils from 1st medio. The first group consisted of students from 1A:

Thanks to Karen Leefhelm for providing transportation and support during the activity. Without the help of the parents this worthwhile activity would not be possible.

Flea Market Success!!!

On Saturday, May the 30th, we held our first large scale fundraising activity; “Puelmapu Reads Flea Market”. After an initially slow beginning, because of the cold and rain, our pupils enthusiastically organised their stands and began to sell all the items they had brought. We sold books, brownies, t-shirts, candles, hats, games, magazines, movies and lots of other interesting articles. Almost a hundred pupils attended and at the end of the day, we managed to achieve our financial goal and even overpass it!

In a later award ceremony held today, Wednesday June the 3rd, we gave the following awards to those who made an outstanding effort:

- Best salesman: Mikel Villalabeitía (1º E)

- Best saleswoman: Paula González (1º B) y Pascal Esquivel (1º B)

- Highest Sales: Group “Internationals”, comprised by Mariela Almojuela (1º E), Emily Lynch (1º B), Isabella Montero (1º A), Alejandra Herrera (1º F), Trinidad Muxica (1º E), Fernanda Salvatierra (1º F), Valentina Tscherebilo (1º E) and Kim Jana (1º D).

- Best stand: Group “El rincón del Vago”, comprised by Rodrigo Orpis (1º D), Felipe Bowen (1º F), Benjamín Mayor (1º D), Dante Pesce (1º C), Nicolás López (1º E), Felipe Herrera (1º F).

- Hardest Workers: Group “Big Sugar”, comprised by Sofía Solari (1º B), Fernanda Montes (1º E), Carolina Sistek (1º C), Pascal Munjin (1º D), Paulina Quevedo (1º D), Catalina Olavarría (1º D) and Catalina Martínez (1º D).

Many thanks to the Tutors who helped us organise and participated in the event; Verónica Mardones our 1st Medio Delegate, Macarena Barahona and Alonso Silva, Michael Leatherbee from OPTE, the auxiliary staff and all the parents, teachers and students that collaborated in this wonderful event.

Next step: furniture building for the OPTE library! We look forward to the same enthusiasm and success.

Feria de las Pulgas

Nuestro Nivel está organizando una "Feria de las Pulgas", que se realizará el día sábado 30 de mayo, de 10:00 a 14:00 hrs., para juntar fondos para el proyecto de Acción Social OPTE. Nuestro objetivo, es recaudar dinero para comprar los materiales necesarios para construir los muebles y estantes que Puelmapu requiere para implementar su Biblioteca. Necesitamos juntar $800.000. Como ven, nos hemos propuesto un desafío importante, que sabemos podremos cumplir gracias al trabajo de nuestros alumnos y al apoyo de profesores y apoderados.

En la Feria de las Pulgas, podrán encontrar entretenidos y útiles objetos para comprar, rica comida, buena música y un excelente ambiente para compartir en familia.

¡Los esperamos a todos este sábado 30 de mayo!
